Your Role and Responsibilities
- Fundraising: Participate in events and help promote campaigns. Attendance at the Induction Ceremony and other events is mandatory. The ceremony is usually in October, but the exact date is TBD. OMHOF may hold other fundraisers throughout the year, and your attendance may be required with at least three weeks' notice.
- Meetings: Attend at least four meetings annually. They are held on the first Monday of every month from approximately 6-8 p.m. at 94 Mariposa Dr., Oswego, NY. Junior board members do not need to stay for the entire meeting (a minimum of one hour is required for credit). If you plan to leave early, please inform Nancy Spereno before the start of the meeting.
- Involvement: Share ideas, join committees, help fundraise, and assist with projects.
- Advocacy: Spread the word about our mission.
- Dress Code: Our board meetings are casual. For events, the dress code will be discussed in a meeting before the event. If you have questions, please ask.
- Learning: Understand how nonprofits work and what we need.
- Training: Receive instructions and training before and during events. You may sell 50/50 raffles and t-shirts, assist guests with seating, or perform other tasks required to support the board. Fundraising is a significant part of this event; remember, the more money we raise, the more people we can help!
- Reflection & Improvement: Assess your performance and contributions. Upon completing your annual commitment, write a 300-word essay on your board experience. You may be asked to attend the post-event meeting to discuss outcomes. We encourage you to share ways to help us improve the event. After completing your commitment, you will receive a written statement from the Board president or vice president confirming your community service hours. You will earn at least 10 hours annually and potentially 20+ hours if additional events are held.
Other benefits you can appreciate from serving on our Junior Board Member program:
- Leadership: Develop decision-making, strategic thinking, and teamwork.
- Communication: Improve public speaking and interpersonal skills.

- Nonprofit Understanding: Learn about nonprofit operations.
